Gearbox Software has officially announced that “Borderlands 4,” the latest installment in the renowned looter-shooter franchise, will be released on September 23, 2025. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms, including Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The announcement was made during Sony’s State of Play event on February 12, 2025, where a new trailer showcased the game’s vibrant and chaotic universe. Set on the new planet Kairos, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter, leading a resistance against a formidable antagonist known as the Timekeeper. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game supports cooperative multiplayer for up to four players, enabling friends to team up and tackle challenges together. A dedicated Borderlands 4 deep dive State of Play is scheduled for Spring 2025, where fans can expect more detailed information about gameplay, character classes, and other features.
The development of “Borderlands 4” follows Gearbox Software’s acquisition by Take-Two Interactive in March 2024. Despite the underwhelming reception of the “Borderlands” movie adaptation released in August 2024, the gaming community remains enthusiastic about the upcoming game, anticipating a return to the franchise’s roots with its signature humor, fast-paced action, and cooperative gameplay.
